OUR STORY
Jane and Susan
Jane and Susan casually talked about learning to can food to be able to avoid the additives found in most store bought foods as well as Susan's food allergies.
What started small, quickly grew to more than a hobby. The food tasted better, Susan could eat more of it without allergic reactions and through sourcing of the foods from their gardens, gardens and orchards of friends and family and a local nonprofit called Salem Harvest, they found that after initial start up costs, they were saving money on the foods they ate while enjoying them more. Additionally, the convenience of grabbing a jar off the shelf instead of having to thaw something out or run to the grocery store for a missing item, was invaluable.
Sharing their fun with friends and family on social media got lots of likes and comments which led to conversations about teaching classes on canning and sourdough, as well as opening a store front so they could have more space for canning and baking as well as a place to share and sell some of what they produce, rather than keeping it all for themselves.
While there is not yet a schedule for when the store front will open, they are working on building up an inventory of products to sell at farmers markets and elsewhere. They are also open to teach classes currently on a one-on-one basis. They will share links to some of their favorite tools and supplies, for those who want to get started on a similar journey.
They will also share some of their canning and sourdough adventures here, so stay tuned for more. :)
